The new state constitutions were adopted so that the eleven colonies of the original Thirteen Colonies of Great Britain would be regarded as states. The other two colonies namely Rhode Island and Connecticut preferred to used the colonial charter instead of becoming an independent state. This states allows the colony to have their own government which is still under the British colonial rule.
