C. Menstruation

The endometrium is the membrane in the vagina in which an egg sits if it is fertilized, but it must stay fresh so it can do the best job it can to protect the egg. Because of this once a month if there is no fertilized egg the endometrium falls out slowly or sheds in a process called menstruation, or more commonly known as a period.
