When an acidic material reacts with a metal, they usually form hydrogen gas and a salt. For example, when hydrochloric acid (HCl) reacts with magnesium (Mg), it yields the products hydrogen (H) and magnesium chloride (MgCl). The reaction also leads to the release of heat since it is an exothermic reaction.
