A compound sentece has at least two independent clauses (clause that have a subject, a verb and a complete thought which means that they can stand by their own). They are not dependent of each other but they have similar ideas. A coordenator (for, and, but etc) or a semi-colon is used to join two or more independent clauses. The coordenators are coordinating conjunctions.
