Voltaire was an Enlightenment philosopher from France. He was one of the personalities who led the people of France to replace the existing government. He became the part of the French Revolution by launching a crusade against the irrationality and attacking the traditional beliefs. Voltaire believed in civil liberties of an individual which included the freedom of religion and the right of free speech. Accordingly, his writings encouraged the people to rebel against the dictatorship of the French emperor.
