At the particle level, what happens when you touch a piece of hot coal?

At the particle level,  when you touch a piece of hot coal the particles in the coal would transfer heat in the form of heat to your hand since the flow energy is from high energy (high temperature) to low energy (low temperature). So, the heat flow is from the coal to your hand.
