Thorium and Protactinium are elements in the periodic table with atomic number which corresponds to the number of proton in the nucleus equal to 90 and 91, respectively.

From the radioactive decay of Thorium-231 to Protactinium-231, the atomic number is increased by 1 while the mass number is unchanged. This type of radioactive decay is called the BETA DECAY.
