With Lincoln's re-election, it destroyed the Confederate hope that the north would give in and negotiate peace with the Confederacy

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America. He was in office during the Civil War, and was responsible for abolishing slavery.

His re-election meant for Southern states that there would be no negotiation nor reconsideration on Slavery, as well as the war. Lincoln's re-election meant that the Northern states were strong, and had the upper hand.
