President Davis replaced General Johnston with General John Bell Hood, because Hood is more aggressive than Johnston.  President Davis hoped that Hood can do more other than manage a fighting retreat.  However, General Hood had no time to organize and prepare his army to attack the Union forces at Peachtree Creek on July 20, when he assumed command.
