What does Leodes say about the bow? No mortal man could bend it. The bow would be the death of the suitors. It had stiffened with time. Antinous is the only one who could bend it.

Answer:

  • The bow would be the death of the suitors.

Step-by-step explanation:

Leódês is the first of the suitors to attempt and string Odysseus' bow before Antínoös has Melánthios "kindle a fire" so that the suitors can "heat and grease the bow… try it limber".

Leódês isn't sufficient and is unfit to twist the bow;"The bow unbending made his thin hands yield, no muscle in them". Leódês then says, "Here is a bow to break the heart and spirit of many strong men," which annoys Antínoös. Antínoös admonishes Leódês for recommending that none of different suitors will most likely string the bow, saying, "You were not born… to pull that bow or let an arrow fly. But there are men here who can and will".
