We have a complex number here, so we start with this.

i^2+i^4
Remove the exponent, like this:
\:i^2=-1
Apply it.

\:i^2=-1
We have to convert the
i^4 = 1
So...

=\left(i^2\right)^2

=1^2

=1

We are left with.

=-1+1
Simplify.

=0
Done!

Have a nice day! :)
