The kind of system used to name individual species or organisms is called binomial system of nomenclature. This is a formal system of naming living  species by giving them scientific  names which are made up of two parts. Most of the names are usually written in Latin although other languages are sometimes used. The first part of a scientific name refers to the genus of the specie.
