If you run aground in an outboard boat and you are not taking on water, the first step in attempting to free your vessel is to stop the boat's engine, try to lift the out drive and shift the weight away from the impact point. After assessing the situation and you are sure that the boat is not taking in water, set an anchor to safe yourself from being pushed further aground, then use a boat hook to check the depth of the water around you. To get moving again, try to back off by shifting the weight farthest from the point of impact and use an oar to push off.
