The cell cycle is divided into two main parts: interphase and cell division. interphase is the period in which the cell is performing normal functions and not actively engaged in cell division. most of your bodys cells spend a lot of their time in interphase. before a cell can divide, what must occur during interphase?

G1 of interphase, where the cell checks for ample nutrients, growth factors, and a proper genome to volume ratio. This is followed by the S phase, where DNA replication occurs. Afterwards, the G2 phase is reached where the cell continues to grow and verifies that the newly replicated DNA contains no errors, at which point the process of Mitosis begins.
