so max amount you can spend is 10

so
pricemax≥rice+beans

we see we have a variable
so either the rice or beans is the vairable

it could be
if rice is variable
rice costs 74 cents a cup and the beans needed costs 4.99

if beans is variable then
the rice needed costs 4.99 and the beans cost 74 cents a cup

depends which is variable

Answer: Hello there!

we know that caren cant spend more than $10 in ingredients, where the ingredients are rice and beans.

the situation given is: 10≥4.99+0.74x

So 10 is the max she can spend, she already spended 4.99 in one of the ingredients, and she want to know the number of portions, x, of the other ingredient that she can buy.

if we pass the 4.99 at the rigth side, we got:

10 - 4.99 ≥ 0.74*x

5.01 ≥ 0.73*x

now, we divide in both sides by 0.74

5.01/0.74 ≥ x

6.77 ≥ x

so Caren could buy, at max, 6 portions of the second ingredient, where i rounded down, because we need a whole number, and i cant round up because in that case she would spend more than $10.
