Commitments to science are the hypothesis of punctuated harmony, created with Niles Eldredge in 1972 after watchful and point by point examination of fossils. This hypothesis suggests that advancement occurs in uncommon cases of fast expanding developmental change in the middle of long stretches of steadiness. This is as opposed to the hypothesis of transformative gradualism.
