So if point W is somewhere on the line segment UV, then the equation UV = UW + WV is true.


UV = UW + WV\\(13)=(2y-9)+(y-5)\\13=2y-9+y-5\\13=(2y+y)+[(-9)+(-5)]\\13=3y-14\\27=3y\\\\y=9
