At the base of the brain is hypothalamus which received sensory signals from neurons and transmit it to pituitary gland. This gland releases hormones which play an essential role in controlling homeostasis. It often releases hormones of its own which then signal to pituitary gland. Hypothalamus is part of the limbic system
