the wealthy people were described as lavish and luxury loving people. They lived in luxury pretty much everyday of their lives. The thing about the wealthy people mentioned in the Gilded Age is that they were the nouveau rich or the new rich. These new rich folks tried to emulate the older rich by smothering themselves with luxurious items and participating in events that only the rich could do
