my answer -
The process is known as distillation, because adhesion is the force between molecules of different liquids i.e mercury and water while cohesion is the force that exists between molecules of the same liquids i.e mercury and mercury or water and water. Diffusion is just the movement of gaseous molecules from area of higher concentration to areas of lower concentration through a semi-permeable membrane.
