The ecological succession can be defined as the process which leads to a structural change in the biological community of species over a time. It is started with pioneering animals and plants and results in a stable community. It remains in stable condition until and unless it is disturbed by some natural or man-made disturbances.

The possible causes of succession in the ecosystem could be a forest fire, deforestation, wind, natural disaster etc.
