Stirring, crushing, heating: how do ALL three treatments affect the solution process?

A. increase potential energy of solvent molecules, increase rate of solution
B. increase contact between solute and solvent molecules, increase rate of solution
C. decrease surface area of solution and solvent particles, decrease rate of solution
D. decrease contact between solute and solvent molecules, increase of rate solution

Answer:

B) increase contact between solute and solvent molecules, increase rate of solution

Step-by-step explanation:

Stirring, crushing, heating all help to increase contact between solute and solvent molecules, increase rate of solution. The more contact between the solute particles and the solvent, the faster the solute dissolves.

Stirring, crushing and heating increases the contact between the solute and solvent particles and increases the rate of dissolution of the solute, into the solution. They lead to spreading of the solvent molecules, across the solute and affect solubility. Particle size is another factor which affects solubility.
