To solve an equation, you simply reverse the operations done to the variable you're trying to solve for.

We have the equation
(x)/(7) + 9 = 15

Currently, the x variable is being divided by 7 and added to 9.
We will need to reverse these operations to find the value of x.

And remember! Anything you do on one side of the equation, you must do on the other side.
We do this to keep the equation balanced.

Add can subtract 9 from each side of the equation.
That way on the left-hand side the 9 term will vanish.

(x)/(7) + 9 - 9 = 15 - 9

(x)/(7) = 6

Now for the final step. The x variable is being divided by 7.
What can we do to reverse that operation? In order words, what is the inverse of dividing something? Well, multiplying!

If we multiply each side by 7 we will get the value of x.

(x)/(7) * 7 = 6 * 7
x = 42

So, x is equal to 42.
