Cronyism is being partial to friends in granting jobs and other advantages to trusted friends or colleagues, regardless of whether they are qualified or not. Therefore the cronyism is contrary with the meritocracy.

Cronyism exists when the appointer and the appointee are in social contact.

It is a phenomenon that often occurs in parliaments but also in the executive branch, and is closely associated with political corruption.

A cronyism is the appointment of friends and associates to positions of authority, without proper regard to their qualifications.
