European media systems began to be largely deregulated during the 1980s.

To add, the spread of cable and subsequent deregulation in the 1980s and 1990s led to more channels, but not necessarily to more diverse ownership. Additionally, media is the collective communication outlets or tools that are used to store and deliver information or data.
