Battle of Gettysburg was a key battle that turned the tide against the Confederates and South faced problems because Britain and France refused to help it any longer. Later, Sherman used total war to destroy civilian and economic resources in the South. In Richmond, Lee's army was trapped by the Union army and he was forced to surrender.
