Why did President James Monroe undertake a goodwill tour soon after taking office?

Because his presidency was ushered into what is known as the "Era of Good Feelings." The U.S. had a sense of confidence because of it's many victories during the war of 1812, which grew quickly and gave new opportunities to it's citizens . (I hope it helped)
