convert to improper fractions to make it easer

3 and 2/5=3+2/5=15/5+2/5=17/5

15 and 3/10=15+3/10=150/10+3/10=153/10


area=length times width
(153/10)=(17/5)(x+3)
times both sides by (5/17)
765/170=x+3
4 and 1/2=x+3
minus 3 both sides
1 and 1/2=x

and length=x+3=4 and 1/2 inches
