Why do you need to examine your motives and perceptions before criticizing someone?

well mainly to not be a hypocrite., if you will tell someone different from what you'd tell yourself, then you'd be a indirectly a hypocrite.

It's easy to judge other people and forget about your own mistakes. Many people, when quickly moved by emotion, can act hypocritically without even noticing. It's also normal to judge someone's situation based on how you feel about that person. So, usually, you have to make sure that your opinion is coming from the right place.
