Find the area of the striped region around the square.

First find the area of the whole thing:

30 x 40
= 1200

Now find the area of the non-shaded area:

15 x 15
= 225

Now subtract:

1200 - 225
=975

( I can't see the answer choices, but that should be the right one!!)
