Why is racism an irrational mental condition?

I wouldn't say it's a mental condition. The United States originally used African Americans as slaves, and they were seen as unequal. Due to this, generations of Americans have seen African Americans differently, despite that they are, in fact, equal. The history plays more of a role in racism than mental conditions. However, I wouldn't doubt that there is a sort of mental condition that pushes this issue further.
