i think it's the direct object of the verb because see, your verb is "fears" and she fears what? flying. so it should be the direct object.

Answer:

The correct answer is "direct object of the verb"

Step-by-step explanation:

The direct object of a verb is the receiver of the action. In this case, the gerund "flying" is acting as a noun and is the direct object in the sentence.

In order to indentify a direct object, first we need to find the verb (fears) and then ask "what?" The answer to that question is the direct object.
