How does a cover letter differ from a resume? How do these two documents work as a team when applying for a job?

A cover letter talks about you as a whole, and what you'll bring to the table. The resume is information about your education, past jobs, and documental information. These two together work as a team to introduce you by giving the employer the skills you carry and any past experience.
