the theme is that its not the destination its the journey and the character that ate the lotus flower were 3 of his crew members

The answer would be overindulgence.
Homer and his people stop and rest with the Lotus Eaters and are then given some of the fruit that is produced by the lotus. Once they eat they keep eating.
