Little help? :)

In a population of 150 toads, poisonous (P) is dominant over non-poisonous (p). According to the Hardy-Weinberg equation, the expected proportion of PP to Pp to pp is 16:8:1. Find the expected count of poisonous heterozygote toads.

Answer: B. 48

Step-by-step explanation: Neither C or D are correct. If that were the case then it would be correct. However, the question asks "Find the expected count of poisonous heterozygote toads." Heterozygote is the key word.

Instead you guys combine Homozygous dominant (PP) and Heterozygous (Pp) together which gave you a total of 96%. The 96% is the ratio between PP and Pp. (16 + 8 = 24 which was then divide by 25)

Solving for B (correct answer)

  • 8 divide by 25 equals 0.32 (or 32%)
  • Multiply 0.32 and 150 and you will get 48 as your answer.
