What made the Navajo Code Talkers so important to the U.S. war effort in the Pacific?

The native languages were very foreign to the Japanese and the Germans so the Marine Corps recruited many natives to transmit secret messages. Their languages kept the Japanese from learning our plans and helped speed up the war.
