The answer is: Aristotle and Saint Augustine.

During the European Middle Ages there was a form of production and preservation of knowledge known as Scholasticism, which was a system of theological and logical thought —developed in early European universities— based mostly upon the thought of Aristotle and early Church Fathers, such as Saint Augustine, who, strongly influenced by some Neoplatonist philosophers, preserved for the Middle Ages the thought of Aristotle´s teacher, Plato.
