Answer

He was going to be the ruler of France for as long as he lived.

Step-by-step explanation

Napoleon was a leader in the French military and also the emperor who was known much for his ability in conquering much of Europe in the early 19th century. He enacted a new framework for France which was known as Napoleonic code which gave post revolutionary France its very first coherent set of laws which concerned property, colonial affairs, family matters and the individual rights. He became in power after the coup of 18 Brumaire and then established himself as the head of a more authoritarian, autocratic, and centralized republican government in France while not declaring himself sole ruler. He increased his power making it permanent and heredity thus He was going to be the ruler of France for as long as he lived.

If he is only a general, his Children would not have any benefit from his title.

So, he decided to became a france emperor. If He became an emperor, the position will be held by his Son when he died. Which mean that the position as an emperor will continue throughout his bloodline (permanent and heredity)
