A  microscope is used for identifying mineral grains in a soil sample. Particularly, petrogrpahic microscopic techniques are used in the same. At 10x magnification, small rocks, as well as bigger mineral particles, can be seen. At 50x, soil microbes can be observed. At 200x, all composites of soil can be observed and distinguished easily. At 1000x, all mineral grains, their aggregates, and small clay particles are observed.
