Halitosis is a medical terminology for people having a bad breath due to some disease or in general. The most common cause of halitosis is bad oral hygiene.

If particles of food are left in the mouth, their breakdown by bacteria produces sulfur compounds which further causes the bad breath.

Halitosis is the third most common reason because of which people need to visit the doctor, after tooth decay and gum disease.
