The Supreme Court ruled that criminal suspects, prior to police questioning, must be informed his/her constitutional right to an attorney.

The Miranda vs. Arizona Supreme Court case established that a suspected criminal/someone under arrest must be read their constitutional rights. This ensures that the citizen under arrest knows what they can and cannot do. This resulted from the Miranda case, as it was unclear whether or not Miranda knew his rights and ultimately it was found that the confession he gave was under conditions where he was not aware of his rights.
