To create an MLA style Works Cited entry, list the author, last name first, and type the book title in italics.

Suppose an author, George Pattison, wrote a novel entitled “Seven Moons Sunrise.” What is the proper format for the first line of the Works Cited entry?

The basic format to creat an MLA Works Cited page is

  • Last Name, First Name. "Title of Book." City of Publication, Publisher, Publication Date.

Note: The title of the book should be in italics or put in quotation marks.

In this case, we only have the name of the author and the title of the book. Therefore, the Works Cited entry should be

  • Pattison, George. "Seven Moons Sunrise." (C)
