What happened when the Roman Empire reached its greatest extent?

It deceased. Barbians invaded the land. because when an empire gets too large, there are less soldiers to cover each area. And the ruler of the empire has a harder time controlling all of the land. Thus, other empires encase and take over. Hope this helps!!!:)

The roman empire fell because it became too big, invasions by Barbarian tribes, economic troubles, overreliance on slave labor, and more.
