4x - 3 = 17

4x = 17 + 3

4x = 20

x = 20 / 4

x = 5

3-4x > 17

Subtract 3 from both sides

-4x > 14

Divide both sides by -4 and because you are dividing by a negative you reverse the inequality sign.


x < 14/4 which can be simplified to 7/2


answer: x < 7/2
