What benefits are provided by the Orange River Project?

SOS:

  • increased energy resources
  • increased irrigation water

The Orange River Project (ORP) was built to capture the runoff (unused) water from the Orange River to help meet the region's increasing water demands and to generate hydroelectricity. In addition to providing energy, the Gariep and Vanderkloof Dams also provide irrigation, improving crop productivity in the region.

Hope this helps!!
