Which best describes the effect of adding the prefix un to a word

"Un" means not! Therefore it makes the root word "not" or essentially the opposite of it's original meaning. EXAMPLE: Unrelated if you break down this word you will find that the prefix is "un" and the root word is "relate" (also the suffix would be "ed" but that isn't relevant). Unrelated means, not relate!
