Why did patroclus wear the armor of Achilles

Well he never fought but I belive the book said he would wear it to fool the Trojans and scrape them away

It was believed that Archilles was the greatest warrior ever lived, so that's why Patroclus wore his armor because they believed it would bring victory and good luck.
