The Great Schism of 1378 was a split that ocurred inside the Roman Catholic Chirch and it started in 1378 and continued until 1417. Two different men, and even three since 1410, claimed themselves to be the rightful Pope. They were mostly motivated by political reasons rather than by theological disagreements. What they actually achieved was to damaged the reputation of such sacred posiotion. The Schism finished with the celebration of the Council of Constance (1414-1418).
