The answer is: Taking on more responsibility.
Drug abusers tend to have too strong addiction for the substance to the point where they are willing to abandon both their social relationship and financial well being in order to get another set of drugs.
Since the drugs that caused addiction tend to negatively affect our overall function, they would not be able to take more responsibility.
