What might happen on earth if the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increases

The amount of solar heat that hits the ground and DOESN'T go back into space increases, so that the Earth gets warmer, weather patterns change, growing seasons change, climates change, polar icecaps shrink, and animal habitats change. There's no "might" about it. That's exactly what's happening right now.
